This cartoon image was a drawing created as a rage comic which was made and submitted to Reddit, by an artist identified as Downlow on 11th of July, 2010. Downlow actually created and submitted a series of pictures but this particular one really got people’s attention. Among the various replies on the Reddit thread, the redditor Alkalait’s comment gave the image its first name – “Bitch please”. Since then the image has got many other names as well. Among the more popular ones are “F**k that guy” and “Dumb bitch”.

On the same Reddit thread, Downlow also confirmed that the drawing was based on a still shot taken out of a press conference video addressed by a Chinese basketball player Yao Ming and Ron Artest in May, 2009. This press conference was held after the 2009 National Basketball Association’s (NBA) playoff. American professional basketball player, Ron Artest (now known as Metta World Peace after legally changing his name in September 2011) was actually recounting to the journalists that after winning the match someone from the crowd was offering him beer and that he would have happily drunk it if only there were no cameras around. Hearing about the incident made Yao Ming laugh so hard that, later, it caught the attention of Downlow to create a meme out of it. This is how the famous Yao Ming meme came into existence.
